Today is all about someone else. We have a friend that has a very sick daughter. Her condition was brought on when she was 6yrs old. She is now around 12yrs old. The condition is so rare, it’s Nieman-Pick Disease. She’s so sick that they have to go to Boston once a month for treatments (that is the only place that can treat her), they have a live-in nurse, but they also have a very healthy 10yr old boy.
As you can imagine, this becomes very expensive. This friend, PB, called MG and I just 2 days ago to inform us that they were doing a fundraising charity for his daughter. MG got on the phone w/ everyone he knew to get them to buy a ticket, even if they weren’t able to come tonight, he had the OHL send over World Jr jersey for auction (went for $400), the Vancouver Canucks sent a team signed jersey (went for $1,000), Ironhead sent a couple jackets ($150 ea), some other locals donated hockey gloves, floorball equipment, etc. My point is that w/ only 2 days notice MG and I (helped some) to do all we could to help. That is inspiring. I would expect this from MG. This is the type of support he gives to everyone and especially me during my trying times. I really admire this about my fiance. Someone who gives, cares and isn’t looking for anything in return. This is what we should all strive for. Myself included. During the past few months, I have really looked inside myself to try to acquire these attributes. It’s not always the easiest thing. Sometimes it’s easier to just sit home and do nothing. That’s when you really have to motivate yourself, get there and you are always much happier once you do. It is the most rewarding feeling to help someone else. Give it a try! Do it today: hold the door for someone, give a heartfelt compliment, don’t gossip for one day, you get the jist.
Tonight was a huge success and I am so thankful that I was there to take part. We had an amazing time. Thank you to everyone who donated, showed up, bought a ticket and gave back to someone who really needed it.
